Alif.Lam.Mim.
That is the book, there is no doubt concerning it, guidance for those who fear,
Those who believe in the unseen and are steadfast in the prayer and from what We have provided them they spend.
And those who believe in what has been sent down to you and what has been sent down before you and of the hereafter they, they are sure.
Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and those, they are the prosperous.
Indeed, those who disbelieved, equal on them whether you warned them or you did not warn them, they will not believe.
God has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing and upon their eyes is a covering; and for them is a great punishment.
And among mankind is one who says, 'We have believed in God and in the Last Day,' and they are not believers.
They try to deceive God and those who believed and they deceive not except their souls and they do not perceive.
In their hearts is sickness, then God gave them more sickness; and for them is a painful punishment because they used to lie.
And when it is said to them, 'Do not do evil in the earth,’ they say, 'We are only reformers.'
Lo, indeed they, they are the evil-doers, but they do not perceive.
And when it is said to them, 'Believe as the people have believed,' they say, 'Shall we believe as the fools have believed?' Lo, indeed they, they are the fools, but they do not know.
And when they meet those who believed, they say, 'We have believed.' And when they are alone with their devils, they say, 'Indeed, we are with you, we are only mocking.'
God mocks them and He extends them in their immoderation wandering about.
Those are the ones who bought error with guidance, so their commerce has no profit, and they are not guided.
Their similitude is like the similitude of the one who kindled a fire, then when it lit what was around him, God took away their light and He left them in darknesses, they do not see.
Deaf, dumb, blind, so they, they will not return.
Or like a rain-cloud from the heaven, in it are darknesses and thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears from the thunderbolts, cautious of death. And God encompasses the disbelievers.
The lightning almost snatches their sights. Whenever it lights for them, they walk in it, and when it darkens on them, they stand. And if God had willed, surely, He would have taken away their hearing and their eyes. Indeed, God is powerful over everything.
O mankind! Serve your Lord, the one who created you and those who were before you, perhaps you may fear.
The one who made the earth a bed for you; and the heaven a building; and He sent down water from the heaven, then He brought forth with it the fruits, provision for you. So do not make peers for God while you, you know.
And if you are in doubt of what We sent down to Our servant, then bring a chapter like it and call on your witnesses besides God, if you are truthful.
So if you do not, and you will not, then fear the fire, the one which its fuel is mankind and the stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
And give glad tidings to those who believed and did the good works that for them are gardens beneath which the rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with fruit from it, a provision, they will say, 'This is that which we were provided with before;' and they will be given it identical; and for them in it are purified spouses; and they will dwell forever in it.
Indeed, God is not shy to strike a similitude, gnats, then what is above it. Then as for those who believed, then they know that it is the truth from their Lord. And as for those who disbelieved, then they say, 'What desired God with this similitude?' He causes many to go astray with it and He guides many with it. And He does not cause to go astray with it except the disobedient.
Those who break the covenant of God after his covenant and cut what God has commanded to be joined and do evil in the earth. Those, they are the losers.
How can you disbelieve in God, and you were dead then He gave you life, then He will cause you to die, then He will give you life, then to Him you will be returned?
He is the one who created what is in the earth all together for you, then He made for the heaven, then He arranged them, seven heavens. And He knows everything.
And when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am making a successor in the earth.' They said, 'Will You make in it one who will do evil in it and shed the bloods, while we, we glorify with Your praise and we declare You to be holy?' He said, 'Indeed I, I know what you do not know.'
And He taught Adam the names, all of them, then He presented them to the angels, then He said, 'Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.'
They said, 'Glory be to You. We have no knowledge except what You have taught us, indeed, You, You are the Knowing, the Wise.'
He said, 'O Adam! Inform them of their names.' Then when he informed them of their names, He said, 'Did I not say to you, “Indeed I, I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth and I know what you disclose and what you were concealing.”?'
And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' then they prostrated except Iblis. He refused and was proud and was among the disbelievers.
And We said, 'O Adam! Dwell, you and your wife, in the garden, and eat from it comfortably wherever you will; and do not draw near this tree, then you will be among the wrongdoers.'
Then the devil made them slip from it, then he caused them to go out of what they were in. And We said, 'Go down, some of you an enemy to some; and for you in the earth is a place of settledness and provision until a time.'
Then Adam received words from his Lord, then He relented on him. Indeed, He, He is the Relenting, the Compassionate.
We said, 'Go down from it all together, then if guidance definitely comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, then no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
And those who disbelieved and called Our signs lies, those are the fellows of the fire, they will dwell forever in it.'
O children of Israel! Remember My favour which I bestowed upon you and fulfil My covenant, I will fulfil your covenant; and Me, so fear Me.
And believe in what I sent down, a verifier for what is with you, and do not be the first to disbelieve in it; and do not sell My signs for a little price; and Me, so fear Me.
And do not clothe the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you, you know.
And be steadfast in the prayer and give the alms and bow with those who bow.
Do you command mankind with righteousness and you forget your souls, and you, you recite the book? So will you not become intelligent?
And seek help with patience and the prayer, and indeed, it is surely great except on the humble,
Those who think that they will meet their Lord and that they will return to Him.
O children of Israel! Remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I, I gave preference to you over the worlds.
And fear a day no soul will compensate a soul anything; and no intercession will be accepted from it; and no equivalent will be taken from it; and they, they will not be helped.
And when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh; they were imposing the evil of punishment on you, slaughtering your sons and letting your women live; and in that was a great trial from your Lord.
And when We parted the sea for you, then We saved you and We drowned the people of Pharaoh while you, you looked.
And when We made an appointment with Moses, forty nights, then you took the calf after him and you were wrongdoers.
Then We pardoned you after that, perhaps you may give thanks.
And when We gave Moses the book and the proof, perhaps you may be guided.
And when Moses said to his people, 'O my people! Indeed you, you have wronged yourselves by your taking the calf, so repent to your maker, then kill yourselves. That is better for you with your maker.' Then He relented on you. Indeed He, He is the Relenting, the Compassionate.
And when you said, 'O Moses! We will not believe you until we see God openly.' Then the thunderbolt seized you while you, you looked.
Then We raised you after your death, perhaps you may give thanks.
And We shaded you with the clouds; and We sent down to you the manna and the quail, 'Eat of the good things of what We have provided you.' And they wronged Us not, but they used to wrong their souls.
And when We said, 'Enter this town, then eat from it comfortably wherever you will, and enter the gate prostrating and say, "Relief," We will forgive you your sins and soon We will give the good-doers more.'
Then those who did wrong substituted a speech other than that which was said to them, then We sent down a punishment from the heaven to those who did wrong because they used to disobey.
And when Moses asked for a drink for his people, then We said, 'Strike the stone with your staff.' Then there gushed forth from it twelve springs, certainly, each people knew their drinking-place. 'Eat and drink of the provision of God and do not do mischief in the earth, working corruption.'
And when you said, 'O Moses! We will not be patient over one food, so call on your Lord for us to bring forth for us some of what the earth makes to grow of its herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions.' He said, 'Will you substitute that which it is lower with that which it is better? Go down to a city, then indeed, for you is what you asked for.' And humiliation and poverty struck them; and they returned with anger of God. That is because they, they used to disbelieve in the signs of God and they kill the prophets without the right. That is because they rebelled and they used to transgress.
Indeed, those who believed and those who became Jews and the Christians and the Sabaeans whoever believed in God and the Last Day and did right, so for them is their reward with their Lord and no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
And when We took your covenant and We raised the mount above you, 'Take what We gave you with strength and remember what is in it, perhaps you may fear.'
Then you turned away after that. So if not for the grace of God upon you and His mercy, surely, you would have been among the losers.
And surely, certainly you know those who transgressed in the Sabbath among you, then We said to them, 'Be apes, spurned.'
Then We made it an exemplary punishment for what is before it and what is behind it and an admonition for those who fear.
And when Moses said to his people, 'Indeed, God commands you to slaughter a cow,' They said, 'Are you taking us in mockery?' He said, 'I seek refuge with God lest I be among the ignorant.'
They said, 'Call on your Lord for us to make clear to us what it is.' He said, 'Indeed He, He says, “Indeed, it is a cow, not old and not young, of middle age between that,” so do what you have been commanded.'
They said, 'Call on your Lord for us to make clear to us what its colour is.' He said, 'Indeed He, He says, “Indeed, it is a yellow cow, bright yellow is its colour, it delights the beholders.”'
They said, 'Call on your Lord for us to make clear to us what it is, indeed, the cows are similar to one another to us, and indeed we, if God wills, will surely be guided.'
He said, 'Indeed He, He says, “Indeed it is a cow, not docile to plough the earth nor irrigate the tilth, unblemished, no defect in it.”' They said, 'Now you have come with the truth.' Then they slaughtered it. And they almost did not.
And when you killed a soul, then you contended concerning it; and God is bringing forth what you used to conceal.
Then We said, 'Strike him with some of it.' Thus God gives the dead life; and He shows you His signs, perhaps you may become intelligent.
Then your hearts became hard after that, then they were like the stones or stronger in hardness. And indeed, among the stones surely is what the rivers gush forth from; and indeed, among them surely is what splits, then the water comes forth from it; and indeed, among them surely is what falls down from the fear of God. And God is not heedless of what you do.
So do you hope that they will believe you? While certainly a party of them used to hear the words of God, then distort it after they comprehended it, and they, they know.
And when they meet those who have believed they say, 'We have believed.' And when some of them are alone with some, they say, 'Will you tell them about what God has disclosed to you?’ To argue with you with it in the presence of your Lord. So will you not become intelligent?
And do they not know that God knows what they conceal and what they publish?
And among them are illiterate ones, they do not know the book except wishes; and they, they do not except assume.
So woe to those who write the book with their hands, then they say, 'This is from God,' to sell it for a little price; so woe to them from what their hands wrote and woe to them from what they earn.
And they said, 'The fire will not touch us except for numbered days.' Say, 'Have you taken a covenant with God? Then God will not break His covenant. Or do you say against God what you do not know?’
Nay, whoever has earned evil and his sin has encompassed him, so those are the fellows of the fire, they will dwell forever in it.
And those who believed and did the good works, those are the fellows of the garden, they will dwell forever in it.
And when We took the covenant of the children of Israel: 'Do not serve except God; and with the parents, goodness, and the relative and the orphans and the poor; and say good to mankind; and be steadfast in the prayer; and give the alms.' Then you turned away except a few of you, and you are turning away.
And when We took your covenant, 'Do not shed your bloods and do not drive yourselves out of your homes,' Then you affirmed, and you, you bear witness.
Then you are these, you kill yourselves and you drive out a party of you from their homes, you assist one another against them in sin and enmity. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, and it is forbidden to you, their expulsion. So do you believe in part of the book and disbelieve in part? So what is the recompense of whoever does that among you except disgrace in the worldly life? And on the Day of Resurrection they will be sent back to the most severe of punishment. And God is not heedless of what you do.
Those are the ones who bought the worldly life with the hereafter, so the punishment will not be lightened for them and they, they will not be helped.
And surely, certainly We gave Moses the book and We followed after him with the messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, the clear proofs and We strengthened him with the holy spirit. So whenever a messenger comes to you with what your souls love not, you are proud? Then a party you call liars and a party you kill.
And they said, 'Our hearts are uncircumcised.' Nay, God has cursed them in their disbelief, so little is what they believe.
And when a book from God comes to them, a verifier for what is with them, and before they used to seek victory over those who disbelieved, then when what they recognise comes to them, they disbelieve in it, so the curse of God is on the disbelievers.
Evil is what they have sold their souls for, to disbelieve in what God sent down, envying that God sends down of His grace to whom He wills of His servants. So they returned with anger upon anger; and for the disbelievers is shameful punishment.
And when it is said to them, 'Believe in what God has sent down.' They say, 'We believe in what has been sent down to us.' And they disbelieve in what is behind it, and it is the truth, a verifier for what is with them. Say, 'Then why were you killing the prophets of God before, if you are believers?'
And surely, certainly Moses came to you with the clear proofs, then you took the calf after him and you were wrongdoers.
And when We took your covenant and We raised the mount above you, 'Take what We gave you with strength and hear.' They said, 'We have heard and we have rebelled.' And they were made to drink the calf in their hearts in their disbelief. Say, 'Evil is what your faith commands you, if you are believers.'
Say, 'If the home, the hereafter with God, is for you exclusively besides mankind, then wish for death, if you are truthful.'
And they will not wish for it, ever, for what their hands have sent forward; and God knows the wrongdoers.
And surely, you will definitely find them the most eager of mankind for life, and of those who associated partners; one of them wishes if only he is lengthened in life a thousand years. And it will not move him away from the punishment that he is lengthened in life. And God sees what they do.
Say, 'Who is an enemy to Gabriel?’ So indeed he, he brought it down to your heart with the permission of God, a verifier for what is before it, and guidance and glad tidings for the believers.
Who is an enemy to God and His angels and His messengers and Gabriel and Michael? Then indeed, God is an enemy to the disbelievers.
And surely, certainly We have sent down to you signs, clear proofs, and none disbelieve in them except the disobedient.
And whenever they covenant a covenant, a party of them throw it away? Nay, most of them do not believe.
And when a messenger from God comes to them, a verifier for what is with them, a party of those who have been given the book throw away the book of God behind their backs as if they do not know.
And they follow what the devils recite against the kingdom of Solomon; and Solomon disbelieved not, but the devils disbelieved. They teach mankind the magic and what has been sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut; and they both do not teach anyone until they both say, 'We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve.' Then they learn from them what they make a distinction between the man and his wife with; and they do not harm anyone with it, except with the permission of God. And they learn what harms them and does not profit them. And surely, certainly they know surely whoever buys it, there is no share for him in the hereafter. And surely evil is what they sell their souls for, if only they know.
And if that they, they believe and fear, surely a reward from God is better, if only they know.
O those who believed! Do not say, 'Observe us,' and say, 'Look at us,' and hear; and for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.
Those who disbelieved among the people of the book nor the idolaters do not love that good is sent down to you from your Lord; and God specially favours with His mercy whom He wills; and God is the possessor of great grace.
What We cancel of a sign or We cause it to be forgotten, We bring better than it or the like of it. Did you not know that God is powerful over everything?
Did you not know that God, for Him is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth? And there is no patron nor helper for you besides God.
Or do you desire to question your messenger like Moses was questioned before? And whoever exchanges disbelief with faith, then certainly, he has gone astray from the right direction of the way.
Many among the people of the book wished if only they could return you to disbelievers after your faith, envy from their souls, after the truth became clear to them. So pardon and overlook until God brings His command; indeed God is powerful over everything.
And be steadfast in the prayer and give the alms; and what you send forward for your souls of good, you will find it with God; indeed, God sees what you do.
And they said, 'None will enter the garden except those who are Jews or Christians.' Those are their wishes. Say: 'Bring your proof, if you are truthful.'
Nay, whoever has submitted his face to God and he is a good-doer, then for him is his reward with his Lord. And no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
And the Jews said, 'The Christians are not upon anything.' And the Christians said, 'The Jews are not upon anything.' And they recite the book. Thus said those who do not know, the like of their speech. So God will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning what they used to disagree about.
And who is more unjust than one who prevented the mosques of God, that His name should be mentioned in them, and strove for their ruin? Those, it is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in the world is disgrace and for them in the hereafter is a great punishment.
And for God is the east and the west, so wherever you turn to, so there is the face of God; indeed, God is immense, knowing.
And they said, 'God took a son.' Glory be to Him. Nay, for Him is what is in the heavens and the earth, all are obedient to Him.
The originator of the heavens and the earth. And when He decides an affair, then He only says to it, 'Be,’ then it is.
And those who do not know said, 'If God does not speak to us or a sign come to us.' Thus said those who were before them, the like of their speech. Their hearts are similar to one another. Certainly, We have made the signs clear for people who are sure.
Indeed We, We have sent you with the truth, an announcer of glad tidings and a warner. And you will not be asked about the fellows of the hellfire.
And the Jews will not be pleased with you nor the Christians until you follow their religion. Say, 'Indeed, the guidance of God, it is the guidance.' And surely, if you follow their lusts after that which came to you of the knowledge, there is no patron nor helper for you from God.
Those whom We gave the book to, they recite it truly its recitation, those believe in it; and whoever disbelieves in it, then those, they are the losers.
O children of Israel! Remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I, I gave preference to you over the worlds.
And fear a day no soul will compensate a soul anything; and no equivalent will be accepted from it; and no intercession will profit it; and they, they will not be helped.
And when his Lord tested Abraham with words, then he completed them, He said, 'Indeed, I will make you a model for mankind.' He said, 'And among my offspring?' He said, 'My covenant does not attain the wrongdoers.'
And when We made the House a place of return for mankind, and safety, and: 'Take a place of prayer of the station of Abraham.' And We made a covenant with Abraham and Ishmael that: 'Purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who devote themselves, and those who bow, the prostration.'
And when Abraham said, 'My Lord make this land safe and provide some of the fruits for its people, whoever believed in God and the Last Day among them.' He said, 'And whoever disbelieved, then I will make him enjoy a little, then I will force him to the punishment of the fire, and evil is the destination.'
And when Abraham and Ishmael raised the foundations of the House: 'Our Lord! Accept from us; indeed You, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
Our Lord! And make us two submitters to You, and among our offspring a nation submitting to You; and show us our rites; and relent on us, indeed You, You are the Relenting, the Compassionate.
Our Lord! And send a messenger among them from them to recite Your signs to them and to teach them the book and wisdom and to purify them; indeed You, You are the Mighty, the Wise.'
And who detests the religion of Abraham except one who has made a fool of himself? And surely, certainly We chose him in the world, and indeed he, in the hereafter, is surely among the righteous.
When his Lord said to him, 'Submit,' he said, 'I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds.'
And Abraham instructed his sons with it and Jacob, 'O my sons! Indeed, God has chosen the religion for you, so definitely do not die except while you are submitters.'
Or you were witnesses when death came to Jacob, when he said to his sons, 'What will you serve after me?' They said, 'We will serve your god and the god of your forefathers Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac, one god; and we are submitters to Him.'
That is a nation, certainly, it has passed away. For it what it earned and for you what you earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.
And they said, 'Be Jews or Christians, you will be guided.' Say, 'Nay, the religion of Abraham, upright; and he was not of the idolaters.'
Say, 'We have believed in God and what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes and what has been given to Moses and Jesus, and what has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any one of them. And we are submitters to Him.'
So if they have believed in the like of what you have believed in, then certainly, they are guided. And if they turn away, then they are only in schism, so soon God will suffice you against them; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
The dye of God. And who is better than God at dyeing? And we are for Him servants.
Say, 'Will you argue with us concerning God while He is our Lord and your Lord? And for us our works and for you your works. And we are sincere to Him.'
Or you say, ‘Indeed, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes were Jews or Christians?' Say, 'Do you know best or God?’ And who is more unjust than one who concealed a testimony from God with him? And God is not heedless of what you do.
That is a nation, certainly, it has passed away. For it what it earned and for you what you earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.
Soon the fools among the people will say, 'What has turned them from their direction of prayer, the one which they were upon?' Say, 'For God is the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight way.'
And thus We have made you a middle nation to be witnesses against mankind and the messenger will be a witness against you. And We made not the direction of prayer, the one which you were upon, except to know he who follows the messenger from he who turns back on his two heels. And indeed, it was surely great except on those who God guided. And God would not waste your faith. Indeed God, with mankind, is surely pitying, compassionate.
Certainly, We see the turning about of your face in the heaven. So surely, We will definitely turn you to a direction of prayer which you will be pleased with. So turn your face towards the sacred mosque. And wherever you are, so turn your faces towards it. And indeed, those who have been given the book surely know that it is the truth from their Lord. And God is not heedless of what they do.
And surely if you come to those who have been given the book with every sign, they would not follow your direction of prayer. And you are not a follower of their direction of prayer. And some of them are not followers of the direction of prayer of some. And surely, if you follow their lusts after what came to you of the knowledge, indeed, you then would surely be among the wrongdoers.
Those whom We gave the book recognise it like they recognise their sons. And indeed, a party of them surely conceal the truth while they, they know.
The truth from your Lord, so definitely do not be among the doubters.
And for each is a direction which he turns towards, so vie with one another in the good works. Wherever you are, God will bring you all together; indeed, God is powerful over everything.
And from wherever you come forth, so turn your face towards the sacred mosque. And indeed, it is surely the truth from your Lord. And God is not heedless of what you do.
And from wherever you come forth, so turn your face towards the sacred mosque. And wherever you are, so turn your faces towards it. That there may not be argument for mankind against you, except those who did wrong among them, so do not fear them, and fear Me. And that I may perfect My favour on you, and perhaps you may be guided;
Like We sent a messenger among you from you to recite Our signs to you and to purify you and to teach you the book and wisdom and to teach you what you did not know.
So remember Me, I will remember you. And give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful to Me.
O those who believed! Seek help with patience and the prayer; indeed God is with the patient.
And do not say for those who are killed in the way of God: 'Dead.' Nay, alive, but you do not perceive.
And surely We will definitely test you with something of the fear and the hunger and diminution of the wealth and the souls and the fruits. And give glad tidings to the patient.
Those who when a calamity befalls them, they say, 'Indeed, we are for God, and indeed, we are returning to Him.'
Those, upon them are prayers from their Lord and mercy, and those, they are the guided.
Indeed, As Safa and Al Marwah are among the symbols of God, so whoever made the pilgrimage to the House or visited, then there is no crime against him to circumambulate both of them. And whoever voluntarily did good, then indeed, God is thankful, knowing.
Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of the clear proofs and the guidance after We made it clear to mankind in the book, those, God curses them and those who curse curse them.
Except those who repented and reformed and made clear, then those, I relent on them, and I am the Relenting, the Compassionate.
Indeed, those who disbelieved and died while they are disbelievers, those, on them is the curse of God and the angels and mankind altogether;
To dwell forever in it. The punishment will not be lightened for them, and they, they will not be given respite.
And your god is one god; there is no god but He, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth; and the difference of the night and the day; and the ships which sail in the sea for what profits mankind; and what God sent down from the heaven of water, then with it He gave the earth life after its death, and He dispersed in it of every creature; and the veering of the winds; and the clouds, the subjected one between the heaven and the earth, surely are signs for people who are intelligent.
And among mankind is one who takes peers besides God. They love them like the love of God. And those who believed are more intense in love for God. And if only those who did wrong could see when they see the punishment that the strength is altogether for God and that God is the severe in punishment.
When those who were followed clear themselves of those who followed and they see the punishment and the ropes are cut up for them,
And those who followed say, 'If that there is a return for us, then we will clear ourselves of them as they clear themselves of us.' Thus God will show them their works, regrets for them, and they will not come forth from the fire.
O mankind! Eat of what is lawful, good in the earth and do not follow the footsteps of the devil, indeed, he is a clear enemy to you.
He only commands you the evil and immorality and to say what you do not know against God.
And when it is said to them, 'Follow what God has sent down,' they say, 'Nay, we will follow what we found our forefathers upon.' Even though their forefathers were not intelligent at all and they were not guided?
And the similitude of those who disbelieved is like the similitude of the one who screams at what does not hear except a call and a cry; deaf, dumb, blind, so they are not intelligent.
O those who believed! Eat of the good things of what We have provided you and give thanks to God, if you, you serve Him.
He has only forbidden you the dead, and the blood, and the flesh of swine, and what has been offered to other than God; but then he who was forced, not seeking nor transgressing, then there is no sin upon him; indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
Indeed, those who conceal what God has sent down of the book and sell it for a little price, those, they eat in their bellies not except the fire. And God will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection and He will not purify them and for them is painful punishment.
Those are the ones who bought error with guidance, and the punishment with forgiveness; so how patient they are on the fire.
That is because God sent down the book with the truth, and indeed, those who disagreed concerning the book are surely in far schism.
It is not righteousness that you turn your faces towards the east and the west, but righteousness is one who believed in God and the Last Day and the angels and the book and the prophets; and gave the wealth for His love to the two relatives and the orphans and the poor and the wayfarer and those who ask and in the necks; and was steadfast in the prayer; and gave the alms; and those who fulfil their covenant when they covenant; and those who are patient in misery and distress and the time of battle. Those are the ones who are true, and those, they are the ones who fear.
O those who believed! Retaliation has been prescribed to you concerning the killed: the free for the free, and the servant for the servant, and the female for the female. Then whoever is pardoned for it anything from his brother, then follow with goodness and payment to him with goodness. That is an alleviation from your Lord and mercy, then whoever transgressed after that, then for him is painful punishment.
And for you in retaliation there is life, O possessors of understanding! Perhaps you may fear.
Prescribed to you, when death comes to one of you, if he leaves good, is the bequest for the parents and the nearer relatives with goodness, a duty upon those who fear.
Then whoever changed it after he heard it, then its sin is only upon those who change it; indeed God is hearing, knowing.
But then whoever feared inclining or sin from a testator, then made peace between them, then there is no sin upon him; indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
O those who believed! Prescribed to you is the fast like it was prescribed to those who were before you, perhaps you may fear.
Numbered days, then whoever among you is sick or on a journey, then a number of other days. And upon those who are capable of it is a ransom, the food of a poor person; so whoever voluntarily did good, then it is better for him; and to fast is better for you, if you know.
The month of Ramadan, the one which the Quran was sent down in, guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and the proof. So whoever witnessed the month among you, then let him fast it. And whoever is sick or on a journey, then a number of other days. God desires ease for you and He does not desire difficulty for you. And that you may complete the number and that you may magnify God upon what He guided you, and perhaps you may give thanks.
And when My servants ask you about Me, then indeed, I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls on Me. So let them respond to Me and let them believe in Me, perhaps they may be rightly directed.
Made lawful for you the night of the fast is sexual relations to your women. They are a garment for you and you are a garment for them. God knew that you used to deceive yourselves, then He relented on you and He pardoned you. So now touch them and seek what God has written for you. And eat and drink until the white thread becomes clear to you from the black thread of the dawn, then complete the fast until the night. And do not touch them while you are devoting yourselves in the mosques. Those are the limits of God, so do not draw near them. Thus God makes His signs clear for mankind, perhaps they may fear.
And do not consume your wealth with falsehood between you, and you offer it to the judges that you may consume a part of the wealth of mankind in sin while you, you know.
They ask you about the new moons. Say, 'They are appointed times for mankind and the pilgrimage.' And it is not righteousness that you come to the houses from their backs, but righteousness is one who fears. And come to the houses from their doors. And fear God, perhaps you may prosper.
And fight in the way of God those who fight you and do not transgress. Indeed, God does not love the transgressors.
And kill them wherever you find them and drive them out of wherever they drove you out. And the trial is more severe than the killing. And do not fight them near the sacred mosque until they fight you in it, then if they fight you, then kill them. Thus is the recompense of the disbelievers.
Then if they desist, then indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
And fight them until there is no trial and the religion is for God, then if they desist, then no enmity except against the wrongdoers.
The sacred month for the sacred month; and the sacred things retaliation. So whoever has transgressed against you, then transgress against him with the like of what he transgressed against you; and fear God; and know that God is with those who fear.
And spend in the way of God; and do not surrender yourselves to ruin; and do good; indeed, God loves the good-doers.
And complete the pilgrimage and the visit to God, then if you are detained, then what is easy of the offering. And do not shave your heads until the offering reaches its place of sacrifice. So whoever among you is sick or in him is an injury of his head, then a ransom of fasting or charity or sacrifice. Then when you are safe, then whoever enjoys the visit until the pilgrimage, then what is easy of the offering, but then whoever did not find, then fasting of three days during the pilgrimage and seven when you return, that is ten entirely. That is for one whose family is not present at the sacred mosque. And fear God; and know that God is the severe in punishment.
The pilgrimage is known months, so whoever has made the pilgrimage incumbent in them, then no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputation during the pilgrimage. And what you do of good, God knows it. And take along provisions, but then indeed, the best of the provision is piety. And fear Me, O possessors of understanding!
There is no crime against you that you seek grace from your Lord. Then when you pour forth from Arafat, then remember God at the sacred symbol place. And remember Him like He guided you, even though you were before it surely among those who err.
Then pour forth from wherever mankind pours forth and seek God’s forgiveness; indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
Then when you have finished your rites, then remember God like your remembering your forefathers or a more intense remembrance. Then among mankind is one who says, 'Our Lord! Give us in the world.' And there is no share for him in the hereafter.
And among them is one who says, 'Our Lord! Give us good in the world and in the hereafter good; and guard us from the punishment of the fire.'
Those, for them is a portion from what they have earned; and God is the swift in reckoning.
And remember God during the numbered days, then whoever hastened in two days, then no sin upon him and whoever lingered, then no sin upon him, for one who feared. And fear God and know that you will be gathered to Him.
And among mankind is one whose speech pleases you in the worldly life, and he calls God to witness what is in his heart, and he is the violently disputatious in altercation.
And when he turns away, he strives in the earth to do evil in it and he destroys the tilth and the progeny; and God does not love corruption.
And when it is said to him, 'Fear God,' pride takes him in the sin; so hell is sufficient for him and surely evil is the bed.
And among mankind is one who sells his soul seeking the pleasure of God; and God is pitying with the servants.
O those who believed! Enter into the peace wholly and do not follow the footsteps of the devil; indeed, he is a clear enemy to you.
So if you slip after the clear proofs have come to you, then know that God is mighty, wise.
Do they wait except for that God comes to them in the canopies of the clouds, and the angels? And the affair has been decided. And to God the affairs will be returned.
Ask the children of Israel how many a sign, a clear proof We gave them; and whoever changes the favour of God after it came to him, then indeed, God is the severe in punishment.
Beautified for those who disbelieved is the worldly life and they ridicule some of those who believed. And those who feared will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And God provides for whom He wills without reckoning.
Mankind was one nation, then God sent the prophets, announcers of glad tidings and warners; and He sent down with them the book with the truth to judge between mankind concerning what they disagreed about; and none disagreed concerning it except those who were given it after the clear proofs came to them; envy between them, then God guided those who believed to what they disagreed about of the truth, with His permission. And God guides whom He wills to a straight way.
Or you thought that you would enter the garden while the similitude of those who passed away before you has not come to you. Misery and distress touched them, and they were shaken until the messenger and those who believed with him say, 'When is the help of God?' Lo, indeed, the help of God is near.
They ask you what they should spend. Say, 'What you spend of good, then for the parents and the nearer relatives and the orphans and the poor and the wayfarer.’ And what you do of good, then indeed, God knows it.
Prescribed to you is the fight and it is hateful to you. And it may be that you are averse to a thing and it is good for you; and it may be that you love a thing and it is evil for you. And God knows, and you, you do not know.
They ask you about the sacred month, fight in it. Say, 'Fight in it is great and hindering from the way of God, and disbelief in Him and the sacred mosque and the expulsion of its people from it are greater with God. And the trial is greater than the killing.' And they will not cease to fight you until they dissuade you from your religion, if they are able. And whoever apostatizes from his religion among you, then dies while he is a disbeliever, then those, their works are void in the world and the hereafter, and those are the fellows of the fire, they will dwell forever in it.
Indeed, those who believed and those who emigrated and strove in the way of God, those, they hope for the mercy of God; and God is forgiving, compassionate.
They ask you about the wine and the game of chance. Say, 'In both of them is great sin and benefits for mankind. And the sin of both of them is greater than the profit of both of them.' And they ask you what they should spend. Say, 'The surplus.' Thus God makes the signs clear to you, perhaps you may think
Concerning the world and the hereafter. And they ask you about the orphans. Say, 'Reformation for them is best.’ And if you mix with them, then your brothers. And God knows the evil-doer from the reformer. And if God had willed, surely He would have distressed you; indeed, God is mighty, wise.
And do not marry the idolatresses until they believe, and surely, a believing female servant is better than an idolatress, even if she pleases you. And do not give in marriage to the idolaters until they believe, and surely, a believing male servant is better than an idolater, even if he pleases you. Those call to the fire, and God calls to the garden and forgiveness with His permission; and He makes His signs clear for mankind, perhaps they may remember.
And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is an injury.' So withdraw from the women during menstruation and do not draw near them until they are clean, then when they cleanse themselves, then come to them from where God has commanded you. Indeed, God loves those who repent and He loves those who cleanse themselves.
Your women are tilth for you, so come to your tilth how you willed and send forward for your souls; and fear God and know that you will meet Him; and give glad tidings to the believers.
And do not make God an object of your oaths to be righteous; and fear and make peace between mankind; and God is hearing, knowing.
God will not chastise you for the foolish talk in your oaths, but He will chastise you for what your hearts have earned; and God is forgiving, clement.
For those who forswear from their women is a waiting of four months, then if they return, then indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
And if they are determined on the divorce, then indeed, God is hearing, knowing.
And the divorced women shall wait for themselves three menstruations; and it is not lawful for them to conceal what God has created in their wombs, if they believe in God and the Last Day. And their husbands are more worthy for their restoration during that if they desire restoration; and for them is the like of that which is upon them with goodness; and for the men are a degree over them; and God is mighty, wise.
The divorce is twice, then keeping with goodness or release with goodness. And it is not lawful for you to take anything from what you gave them, except that they both fear that they both cannot keep the limits of God. So if you fear that they both cannot keep the limits of God, then there is no crime against both of them concerning what she ransoms herself with. Those are the limits of God, so do not transgress them; and whoever transgresses the limits of God, then those, they are the wrongdoers.
Then if he divorces her, then she is not lawful for him after, until she marries a husband other than him. Then if he divorces her, then there is no crime against them both that they return to one another, if they think that they both can keep the limits of God. And those are the limits of God. He makes them clear for people who know.
And when you divorce the women, then they reach their term, then keep them with goodness or release them with goodness. And do not keep them to harm to transgress. And whoever does that, then certainly, he has wronged his soul. And do not take the signs of God in mockery. And remember the favour of God upon you and what He has sent down to you of the book and wisdom, He admonishes you with it; and fear God, and know that God knows everything.
And when you divorce the women, then they reach their term, then do not prevent them from marrying their husbands when they agree between them with goodness. That, whoever believes in God and the Last Day among you is admonished with it. That is purer for you and cleaner; and God knows and you, you do not know.
And the mothers shall suckle their children two years entirely, for whoever desired to complete the suckling. And upon the begetter of it is their provision and their clothing with goodness, no soul is tasked except its capacity. A mother shall not be harmed with her child; nor a begetter of it with his child. And upon the inheritor is the like of that. Then if they both desire to wean from mutual consent of both of them and joint consultation, then there is no crime against both of them. And if you desire to seek a wet nurse for your children, then there is no crime against you when you hand over what you give with goodness. And fear God; and know that God sees what you do.
And those who are caused to die among you and leave wives, they should wait for themselves four months and ten, then when they reach their term, then there is no crime against you concerning what they do about themselves with goodness. And God is aware of what you do.
And there is no crime against you concerning what you hinted at of the betrothal of the women or you concealed in your souls. God knew that you soon will remember them, but do not make an arrangement with them in secret, except that you say good speech. And do not be determined on the knot of the marriage until the book reaches its term and know that God knows what is in your souls, so beware of Him. And know that God is forgiving, clement.
There is no crime against you if you divorce the women, what you did not touch or allocate for them an ordinance. And provide for them; upon the wealthy, his ability, and upon the poor, his ability; a provision with goodness, a duty upon the good-doers.
And if you divorce them before that you touch them, and certainly you have allocated for them an ordinance, then the half of what you allocated, except that they pardon or the one in whose hand the knot of the marriage is pardons. And that you pardon is nearer to piety, and do not forget the grace between you. Indeed, God sees what you do.
Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and stand obedient to God.
Then if you fear, then on foot or riding, then when you are safe, then remember God like He taught you what you did not know.
And those who are caused to die among you and leave wives, a bequest for their wives, provision until a year, not expelling; but then if they go out, then there is no crime against you concerning what they do about themselves of goodness. And God is mighty, wise.
And for the divorced women a provision with goodness, a duty upon those who fear.
Thus God makes His signs clear for you, perhaps you may become intelligent.
Did you not look at those who went forth from their homes, and they were thousands, cautious of death? Then God said to them, 'Die,' then He gave them life. Indeed, God is surely a possessor of grace for mankind, but most of mankind do not give thanks.
And fight in the way of God; and know that God is hearing, knowing.
Who is that, the one who will lend God a good loan? So He will double it for him many, many times; and God contracts and He extends, and to Him you will be returned.
Did you not look at the chiefs of the children of Israel after Moses, when they said to a prophet of theirs, 'Raise a king for us, we will fight in the way of God.’? He said, 'Perhaps you, if the fight is prescribed to you that you will not fight?' They said, 'And what ails us that we will not fight in the way of God, and certainly we and our children have been driven out of our homes?' Then when the fight was prescribed to them, they turned away, except a few of them; and God knows the wrongdoers.
And their prophet said to them, 'Indeed, God certainly has raised a king for you, Saul.' They said, 'How is the kingdom for him over us while we are more worthy of the kingdom than him and he has not been given abundance of wealth?' He said, 'Indeed, God chose him over you and He increased him extensively in knowledge and the body. And God gives whom He wills His kingdom; and God is immense, knowing.'
And their prophet said to them, 'Indeed, a sign of his kingdom is that the chest will come to you, in it is tranquillity from your Lord and a residue of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron left, the angels will carry it. Indeed, in that surely is a sign for you, if you are believers.’
Then when Saul departed with the armies, he said, 'Indeed God will test you with a river, so whoever drank from it, then he is not of me and whoever did not taste it, then indeed, he is of me except whoever scooped a handful with his hand.' Then they drank from it except a few of them. Then when he crossed it, he and those who believed with him, they said, 'We have no power today for Goliath and his armies,' Those who think that they would meet God said, 'How many a small troop overcame a numerous troop with the permission of God. And God is with the patient.'
And when they came forth to Goliath and his armies, they said, 'Our Lord! Pour patience on us and make firm our feet and help us against the disbelieving people.'
Then they routed them with the permission of God and David killed Goliath and God gave him the kingdom and wisdom and taught him some of what He wills. And if not for God repelling mankind, some of them with some, surely the earth would have been corrupted, but God is a possessor of grace for the worlds.
Those are the signs of God, We recite them to you with the truth, and indeed, you are surely among the messengers.
Those messengers, We gave some of them preference over some. Among them is one who God spoke to; and He raised some of them in degrees; and We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, the clear proofs, and We strengthened him with the holy spirit. And if God had willed, those who were after them would not have fought one another after the clear proofs came to them, but they disagreed, so among them is one who believes and among them is one who disbelieves. And if God had willed, they would not have fought one another, but God does what He desires.
O those who believed! Spend of what We have provided you, before that a day comes in which there is no trade and no friendship and no intercession; and the disbelievers, they are the wrongdoers.
God, there is no god but He, the Living, the Everlasting. Slumber takes Him not nor sleep. For Him is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. Who is that, the one who intercedes with Him? Except with His permission. He knows what is before them and what is behind them and they do not encompass anything of His knowledge except for what He willed. His throne has included the heavens and the earth and the guarding of both of them burdens Him not. And He is the High, the Great.
There is no compulsion in the religion. Certainly, rectitude has become clear from error, so whoever disbelieves in Al taghut and believes in God, then certainly he has grasped the firm grip for which there is no cracking; and God is hearing, knowing.
God is the patron of those who believed, He brings them forth from the darknesses to the light. And those who disbelieved, their patrons are Al taghut, they bring them forth from the light to the darknesses; those are the fellows of the fire, they will dwell forever in it.
Did you not look at the one who argued with Abraham concerning his Lord that God gave him the kingdom? When Abraham said, 'My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death,' he said, 'I, I give life and I cause death.' Abraham said, 'So indeed, God brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west.' Then the one who disbelieved was dumbfounded. And God does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Or like the one who passed by a town, and it had fallen down on its roofs, he said, 'How will God give this life after its death?' Then God caused him to die one hundred years, then He raised him. He said, 'You have tarried how long?' He said, 'I have tarried a day or part of a day.' He said, 'Nay, you have tarried one hundred years. So look at your food and your drink, it did not spoil, and look at your ass; and that We may make you a sign for mankind, and look at the bones how We revive them, then We clothe them with flesh.' Then when it became clear to him, he said, 'I know that God is powerful over everything.’
And when Abraham said, 'My Lord! Show me how you give the dead life,' He said, 'And did you not believe?' He said, 'Yes, but that my heart may be at ease.' He said, 'Then take four of the birds, then incline them towards you, then put a portion of them on each mountain, then call them, they will come to you running; and know that God is mighty, wise.'
The similitude of those who spend their wealth in the way of God is like the similitude of a grain, it made seven ears grow, in each ear one hundred grains. And God doubles for whom He wills; and God is immense, knowing.
Those who spend their wealth in the way of God, then do not follow what they spent with reproach nor harm, for them is their reward with their Lord and no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
Good speech and forgiveness are better than charity, harm following it. And God is free of need, clement.
O those who believed! Do not make your charities vain with the reproach and the harm, like the one who spends his wealth, eyeservice of mankind, and does not believe in God and the Last Day; so his similitude is like the similitude of a rock upon it is dust, then heavy rain fell on it, then left it hard. They do not have power over anything of what they have earned. And God does not guide the disbelieving people.
And the similitude of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of God and strengthening of their souls is like the similitude of a garden on a hill, a heavy rain fell on it, then it gave its fruit double, then if the heavy rain does not fall on it, then dew. And God sees what you do.
Would one of you love that he has a garden of palms and grapes, the rivers flowing beneath it, he has in it of all the fruits; and the old age hits him and he has weak offspring, then a whirlwind in which is fire hit it, then it is burnt? Thus God makes the signs clear for you, perhaps you may think.
O those who believed! Spend of the good things of what you have earned and of what We brought forth for you from the earth and do not aim at the bad of it to spend; and you would not take it except you close eye concerning it. And know that God is free of need, praiseworthy.
The devil promises you poverty and he commands you immorality, while God promises you forgiveness from Him and grace; and God is immense, knowing.
He gives whom He wills wisdom; and whoever is given wisdom, then certainly, he has been given much good; and none remember except the possessors of understanding.
And what you spent of an expenditure or you vowed of a vow, then indeed, God knows it. And there are no helpers for the wrongdoers.
If you disclose the charities, then it is excellent; and if you conceal them and give them to the needy, then is it better for you, and He will cover from you some of your evil deeds; and God is aware of what you do.
Not upon you is their guidance, but God guides whom He wills. And what you spend of good, then for your souls. And do not spend except seeking the face of God. And what you spend of good will be paid to you in full and you, you will not be wronged,
To the needy, those who are detained in the way of God, they are not able to travel in the earth. The ignorant one thinks them free of need from the restraint; you will recognise them by their mark, they do not ask mankind with importunity. And what you spend of good, then indeed, God knows it.
Those who spend their wealth in the night and the day, in secret and in public, so for them is their reward with their Lord and no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
Those who consume usury do not stand except like the one who the devil knocks out from the touch stands. That is because they said 'Trade is only like usury.' And God has made trade lawful and He has forbidden usury. So he who admonition from his Lord came to him, then he desisted, then for him is what is past; and his affair is to God. And whoever returned, then those are the fellows of the fire, they will dwell forever in it.
God blots out usury and He makes the charities grow. And God does not love every ungrateful sinner.
Indeed, those who believed and did the good works and were steadfast in the prayer and gave the alms for them is their reward with their Lord; and no fear upon them and they, they will not grieve.
O those who believed! Fear God and leave what has remained of usury, if you are believers;
So if you do not, then be informed of a war from God and His messenger. And if you repent, then for you are the heads of your wealth. Do not wrong and you will not be wronged.
And if it is a possessor of difficulty, then postponement until ease. And that you give charity is better for you, if you know.
And fear a day in which you will be returned to God; then each soul will be paid in full what it earned, and they, they will not be wronged.
O those who believed! When you contract a debt from each other until a named term, then write it. And let a scribe write between you with equity. And let not a scribe refuse to write like God taught him, so let him write; and let the one upon whom is the right dictate and let him fear God, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it. Then if the one upon whom is the right is a fool or weak or he, he is not able to dictate, then let his patron dictate with equity. And call witnesses, two witnesses from your men, then if there be not two men, then a man and two women of whom you are pleased with from the witnesses, that one of them errs, then one of them will remind the other. And let the witnesses not refuse when they are called. And do not not tire to write it, small or great, to its term. That is more just with God and most straight for the testimony and nearer that you not doubt. Except that it is a present merchandise which you transfer from hand to hand between you, then it is not a crime against you that you do not write it. And call to witness when you agree on the terms of a sale. And let not the scribe be harmed nor the witness; and if you do, then indeed, it is disobedience in you. And fear God; and God teaches you; and God knows everything.
And if you are on a journey, and do not find a scribe, then a pledge in hand. Then if some of you trust some, then let the one who is trusted render his trust; and let him fear God, his Lord, and not conceal the testimony; and whoever conceals it, then indeed he, his heart is sinful. And God knows what you do.
For God is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; and if you disclose what is in your souls or you conceal it, God will call you to account for it; then He will forgive whom He wills and He will punish whom He wills. And God is powerful over everything.
The messenger believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and the believers. All believed in God and His angels and His books and His messengers. We make no distinction between any one of His messengers. And they said, 'We have heard and we have obeyed, Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You is the destination.
God does not task a soul except its capacity. For it what it earned and against it what it earned. Our Lord! do not chastise us if we forget or we make a mistake. Our Lord! And do not load a burden on us like You loaded it on those who were before us. Our Lord! And do not make us carry what we have no power for. And pardon us and forgive us and have mercy on us. You are our master, so help us against the disbelieving people.’
